Arlington Hotel. Behind: Olson's Tailor Shop, Livery Barn, Methodist Church. Note the condition of the street and the well beaten path across it.
The first Hotel was built on the corner of Main and Assiniboine, at the present site, in 1906 by C. Reddick and W.O Murray of Antler. In 1909, the hotel was sold to Oluf Olson and F. Martin. Olson was the manager, a new wing was added to the south side, along with a balcony in 1910-11. When completed, it made the Arlington Hotel, as it was now known, one of the largest hotels west of Brandon. (Page360)
The Hotel Fire, Febuary 1945
Written By Ruth Longman
That afternoon I was in my room on the third floor of the Arlington Hotel. Louis Skallerup came to our doors and told us all to come down as there was a fire in the kitchen. The fire worsned and we were not allowed back in. It was the first day of the Men' Bonspiel that Maryfield ever had and all the hotel rooms were booked. About 4p.m. the hotel was past saving. When the fire got to the steps it swept upwards and in no time fire was bursting out all the windows.(Page 362)
